The process
How a matter works
Every matter is different, but the shape is the same. You will always know which stage you are in.
- Stage 1
Consultation
We listen, ask questions and explain your options in plain language.
- Stage 2
Engagement
If you go ahead, we confirm the scope and fees in a written retainer.
- Stage 3
The work
Regular updates, and copies of everything we send or receive.
- Stage 4
Wrap-up
We close the file, return your originals and tell you what to keep.

Your first meeting
What to expect at your consultation
- Before we meet
- We run a conflict check, so we will ask for the names of the other people involved.
- What to bring
- Any letters, agreements or court papers, and a short timeline of what happened.
- How it runs
- About an hour, at our office or by video. You can bring someone with you.
- Afterwards
- If you would like one, a short email setting out your options and next steps.
Fees
How fees work
We talk about fees at your consultation, before any work begins, so you know how billing works from the start.
Fixed fees
For defined work, like a will or a residential closing, we quote a fixed fee where we can.
Hourly, with an estimate
For matters that are harder to predict, we explain our hourly rates and give you an estimate up front.
Always in writing
Every matter starts with a written agreement that sets out the scope and how billing works.
